our mission

We are on a mission to educate boat operators

In 2022, there were over recreational 4,000 boating accidents, resulting in over 600 deaths.

The most common accident type are collisions with other recreational boats, mainly due to operator inattention, inexperience, or alcohol use.

These types of accidents are easily preventable with training and experience.

Our U.S Coast Guard Licensed Captains can provide you with the necessary tools to be a safe boat operator and prevent these statistics from increasing.

Client Testimonials

What our clients say

My husband and I had our first lesson after contacting Captain Jim, and it totally exceeded our expectations. It was well worth the investment and we are already feeling more confident on our new 23′ Sea Ray. Looking forward to doing this again!

Wow, this website has been a lifesaver for my family and me! We’re new boat owners, and honestly, the water used to give us jitters. But now? Learning to handle our boat while making sure my family is safe has been such a relief. The instructors are patient and really get how nerve-wracking it can be. Now we’re not just boating, we’re creating awesome memories. Seriously, BoatSavvy rocks, and I’m so glad we found them. If you’re a newbie boater, trust me, get a lesson, you will not regret it!
Chris Summers
Best thing I’ve ever done for my family. We can now enjoy boating without the fear of docking, anchoring, following the channel markers, and maneuvering around larger boats. Our captain Jim was super patient with me since I am a new boat owner, and I learned a ton during our lesson. Highly recommended.
James Connor
I had a great experience with Captain Artie. Showed me the ropes of the LI Sound and Huntington area where I typically do most of my boating.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does BoatSavvy work?

BoatSavvy is a directory of licensed Captains that provide private on-water lessons for recreational boaters. If you would like boating lessons with a licensed Captain, use the “Find a Captain” link to locate a captain near you.

If you want us to find a match based on your needs and preferences, use our “Get Started” form and we will match you with an available Captain.

Every captain prices their services differently, so there is no set price for training. We encourage captains to list their hourly prices in their profile, but it’s best to contact them directly for up to date prices.

  1. Go to the “Find a Captain” page.
  2. Use the radius filter or filter by state to find available captains in your area.
  3. When you find a captain that you would like to connect with, fill out the “Book a Lesson” form. If you would rather us connect you with a local captain, we can do that for you also.
  4. We will connect with your preferred Captain, and he/she will reach out to set up a lesson.

Note: BoatSavvy does not handle bookings, cancellations, payments, or render boat training services. All questions, inquiries and payments are on a captain by captain basis.
